How is Breast Enlargement Done & How Long Do Implants Last?
Updated: Nov 12, 2019
There are a variety of reasons why some might choose to undergo breast enlargement in Turkey, including lack of breast development since adolescence or loss of breast tissue, as well as breast volume-loss due to pregnancy, weight loss or other hormonal changes. In all such cases, breast augmentation surgery in Turkey can be performed for all patients over the age of 18.
However, if you’re considering breast implants/augmentation, you likely have some questions about the process, which is why Group Florence has collected some insight for you. Below you’ll find everything you need to know about how breast enlargement is done and how long it lasts.
What Exactly is Breast Enlargement/Augmentation?
Our team of Turkey doctors performs breast enlargement/augmentation to increase the size, shape or fullness of your breasts. Some of the most common reasons someone might have such a procedure done is to enhance naturally small breasts, reshape breasts after a significant amount of weight loss, or change due to breastfeeding after pregnancy. Other reasons include restoring symmetry when breasts do not match shape or size, and after surgery due to a medical condition, such as breast cancer.
Nowadays, the most commonly practiced method of breast enhancement and augmentation is through the use of implants, which are surgically placed under the chest muscles or breast tissue.
What Happens Before Your Breast Enlargement Surgery in Turkey?
Before undergoing breast enlargement/augmentation in Turkey, your doctors will meet with you to ensure you understand every aspect of the procedure. Often, as with Group Florence, the process will first begin with a free initial consultation to ensure you’re a good candidate for breast enlargement and that you don’t have any outstanding health issues that could complicate the process.
At this stage, doctors will discuss your goals and options available in terms of implant size and placement. You’ll also be able to look at before-and-after photos of other surgeries performed to better understand how your breast augmentation will look once it’s all done. This is also a time when you can ask doctors any questions you have about the procedure, as well as communicate to them any conditions, allergies or previous surgeries you’ve had that could impact the procedure.
Are There Different Types of Breast Implants?
There are several different types of breast implants commonly used. The right ones for you will depend upon your needs and situation. The first of these are silicone gel implants, which feel soft and natural, are less likely to wrinkle than other alternatives, and have a long history of success in the breast augmentation field. Such implants are available in round and teardrop shapes.
The second breast implant option is cohesive gel implants. These provide a firmer feel and are often thought of to be a slightly safer option as opposed to silicone gel implants. This is because their firmer outer wall means that in the unlikely event of a rupture, the interior gel is much less likely to leak out into the surrounding tissue and cause complications.
Additionally, before any type of breast surgery, your surgeon will ask you to have a mammogram to ensure that there is no sign of breast cancer.
What Does the Breast Enlargement/Implant Procedure Entail?
After your initial consultation, you’ll then be required to schedule a date for your augmentation surgery, which often takes around 60-90 minutes. It also requires an overnight stay to ensure that you’re healthy and ready to be on your way and begin the healing process.
During the actual procedure, your surgeon will make a small incision either along the underside of your breast, under your arm, around the nipple, or through your mastectomy scar to then install your implants.
How Long Do Breast Implants Last?
Although there is no specific expiration date for breast implants, they typically last anywhere from 10-20 years. However, some may choose to remove or replace their implants beforehand due to minor concerns or complications. Often in such scenarios, they may be replaced on average every 8-10 years, although such circumstances are in the minority. Implants are replaced due to several reasons, including rupturing, hardening, changes in position, rippling, and palpability.
